Honors 2012 Small Businesses of the Year

Boise, ID (May 16, 2012) – Small business is the driving force of economic growth and job creation not only here in Idaho, but also across the nation. Small business makes up the overwhelming majority of the Boise Metro Chamber’s membership. So, each year, we recognize small business excellence in our community.

The Small Business of the Year Awards were announced during the Chamber’s Small Business and Nonprofit of the Year Awards Luncheon at the Boise Centre on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.

This year’s winner in the 10 employees or less category is eTrip Trader, Inc. The company pioneered the industry of automated work shift trading through a customizable online system. eTrip Trader got its start in 2002 by enabling airline pilots to trade flying trips. That quickly expanded for use by flight attendants. And now, eTrip Trader offers comprehensive schedule management solutions for all major industries.

In the 11 employees or more category, the winner is Western Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. They have been serving the heating and cooling needs of the Boise Valley for more than 45 years. Western Heating and Air Conditioning is a family business, now being operated by a second generation owner. The company attributes their success to their community involvement and mission to establish themselves as a household name for trust, value and integrity.

eTrip Trader and Western Heating and Air Conditioning won out over seven outstanding finalists in a field of more than 40 nominees. The other finalists were Capitol Dental, Cornerstone Design, Parks Royal Body Works, Signs By Tomorrow and Taylor Brothers. Our panel of judges evaluated the finalists on staying power, growth in number of employees, increase in sales or unit volume, innovativeness of product or service, response to adversity and contributions to community-oriented projects.

“Each one of our finalists embodies excellence, innovation and pride in our community. As one of the judges, I found it extremely difficult task to choose between them. I would like to congratulate our winners for being the best of the best among what is truly an amazing small business community in Boise,” said Bill Connors, President & CEO of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce.
